ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called Simulation Training in Emergency Department Imaging 2, is exploring whether online training can help emergency department (ED) clinicians better interpret CT head scans. These scans are often needed for patients with conditions like skull fractures, strokes, and brain tumors, but there can be delays in getting results from radiologists. By providing training, the study aims to see if ED clinicians can make quicker and more accurate decisions based on the scans they interpret themselves, while also identifying any challenges they face in this process.
The trial will include 180 ED clinicians from six hospitals in the UK who regularly review CT head scans. Participants will first take an online assessment to check their current skills, then one group will receive training and practice interpreting scans, while a control group will do the same but after trying to interpret scans without training. Throughout the study, patient care will remain safe, as all participants will continue to rely on radiologist reports for clinical decisions. This study is open to all ED clinicians who have not had formal training in CT reporting and have been working in their department for at least four months.
