ClinConnect Summary

The Mandibular Reconstruction Preplanning (ViPMR) trial is studying a new approach to help patients with oral cavity cancer who need surgery to rebuild their jawbone. This study is comparing two methods: one that uses advanced 3D modeling and custom surgical guides (called Virtual Surgical Planning or VSP) and another that uses traditional hand surgery techniques (Free-Hand Surgery or FHS). Researchers want to find out which method leads to better healing, fewer complications, and improved quality of life after surgery.

To join this trial, participants must be adults over 18 with a specific type of jaw surgery called mandibulectomy and need a reconstructive procedure using a free flap. Those with severe health issues or a recent history of head or neck cancer will not be eligible. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgical methods and will have follow-up scans to assess how well their jaw heals over the next year. This study aims to provide valuable insights into the best ways to support recovery and improve outcomes for patients facing similar surgeries in the future.
