ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at how the use of a tourniquet during ankle fracture surgery affects the pH levels in the muscles and the overall recovery of patients. A tourniquet is a device that temporarily stops blood flow to the area being operated on, and the researchers want to find out if this has any impact on how well patients do after their surgery, including how they feel and how well they can move.

To participate in this study, you need to be an adult between 18 and 89 years old who is having surgery to fix an ankle fracture at OHSU. However, if you have severe infections or serious injuries to other bones, you won’t be eligible. If you join the trial, you can expect to have your muscle pH monitored during and after the surgery, and your recovery will be tracked to see how tourniquet use affects your healing process. This trial is currently recruiting patients of all genders, so if you or someone you know is undergoing this type of surgery, it might be a good opportunity to help advance medical knowledge in this area.
