ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how effective lung ultrasound is in detecting lung problems after surgery for esophageal cancer. After an esophagectomy (a surgery to remove part of the esophagus), patients can experience serious breathing issues. The goal of this study is to find out if lung ultrasound can help predict these problems within one hour after the patient wakes up from anesthesia. This method is promising because it can be done right at the bedside, doesn't involve moving the patient, and doesn't use radiation.
To participate in this trial, patients must be scheduled for a thoracic esophagectomy and be between the ages of 65 and 74. Unfortunately, those with emphysema, those who may not survive the surgery, or those who choose not to participate will not be eligible. Participants can expect to have a lung ultrasound shortly after their surgery, which may help doctors provide better care and catch any issues early on.
