ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the lung health of patients who have undergone surgery for head and neck cancer, specifically those who have had a tracheostomy (a procedure where an opening is made in the neck to help with breathing). After this type of surgery, patients often experience breathing problems, and the goal of this study is to use ultrasound scans to check the condition of their lungs in the days following the surgery. Researchers will perform these scans in the recovery area right after surgery, as well as on the first and second days afterward, to see if there are any lung issues.
To participate in this trial, patients must be between the ages of 65 and 74 and have had a tracheostomy as part of their cancer surgery. Unfortunately, those who are under 18, already have a tracheostomy, or are unable to give consent due to other reasons cannot join. Participants can expect to have their lung health monitored closely during their recovery, which will help doctors understand and possibly improve care for patients after similar surgeries in the future. If you or a loved one fits the criteria and is interested, this could be an important opportunity to contribute to research that may enhance postoperative care for many patients.
