ClinConnect Summary
The trial called "Accountability for Care Through Undoing Racism & Equity for Moms" (ACURE4Moms) is designed to improve the health of Black mothers during pregnancy and after giving birth. It aims to reduce the differences in healthcare experiences and outcomes between Black and White mothers. The study will involve 40 prenatal care practices in North Carolina, where clinics will be randomly assigned to receive different kinds of support. These include standard care, added data tracking to improve accountability, community-based doula support, or a combination of these methods. Overall, the goal is to help around 30,000 patients and see how these different approaches affect their health outcomes over the first year after delivery.
To participate in this study, clinics need to have a significant number of Black deliveries and agree to follow the study rules. Patient participants must start their prenatal care at one of the clinics involved, identify as Black or African American, and be able to participate in interviews or surveys in English. If selected, participants can expect to receive either standard care or additional support aimed at improving their pregnancy experience and health outcomes. This trial is currently recruiting, and it is an important step toward addressing and reducing health disparities in maternal care.
