ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a new way to help people living with HIV in Uganda and Zambia quit smoking. The researchers want to see if a phone-based program that supports quitting tobacco is more effective than the usual advice to stop smoking or using nicotine patches. By comparing these methods, the study aims to find out how well this program works, how easy it is to use, and if it's affordable for healthcare centers in these countries. This could lead to better health outcomes for those who smoke and have HIV.

To participate in this study, you need to be between 18 and 74 years old and currently smoke tobacco daily. Unfortunately, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, you cannot join. Additionally, you should be able to communicate in English or the local languages and be able to give your consent to participate. If you join, you can expect to receive support through your phone to help you quit smoking, along with the standard care that others receive at the HIV treatment center. This study is important because it could help improve health and save costs for many people dealing with both HIV and tobacco use.
