ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how men and women experience differences in their speaking abilities after a surgical procedure called total laryngectomy, which involves removing the voice box. After this surgery, many patients use a device called a tracheoesophageal prosthesis (TEP) to help them speak again. Researchers want to find out if female patients have a harder time with their speech and voice quality compared to male patients, both in how they feel about their speech and in measurable ways.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between the ages of 65 and 74, have undergone total laryngectomy, and be using a TEP. The trial is currently recruiting participants of all genders. Those who join can expect to share their experiences and undergo assessments that will help the researchers understand these gender differences in speech outcomes. This study aims to improve support and resources for all patients recovering from this type of surgery.
