ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the differences between patients with beta-thalassemia who have a heart condition called atrial fibrillation and those who do not have this condition. Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat that can lead to complications, and the researchers want to understand how it affects beta-thalassemia patients. The trial is currently recruiting participants aged 65 to 74, who are being treated for beta-thalassemia and have had specific heart tests called an electrocardiogram and echocardiogram done at the Cardiology Unit of the University Hospital of Ferrara.
To participate, individuals must be dependent on blood transfusions for their beta-thalassemia and should not be younger than 18 years, pregnant, or unable to give informed consent. Those who join the study can expect to provide additional information about their health and undergo further assessments to help researchers understand the impact of atrial fibrillation on their condition. This research is important as it may lead to better management and treatment options for beta-thalassemia patients with heart problems.
