ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how muscles in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) behave and change over time. Cerebral palsy is a condition that affects movement and muscle control, often leading to tightness and shortening of muscles, especially in the arms and legs. The researchers want to learn more about the tiny structures within muscles, called sarcomeres, which help muscles contract. By using a special laser technique during surgeries, they can measure the length of these sarcomeres to help determine the best way to perform muscle surgeries, such as lengthening muscles or transferring tendon positions. They will also take small samples of muscle tissue during these surgeries to look for changes that could affect recovery.
To join the trial, participants should be between 2 and 18 years old and have cerebral palsy or an acquired brain injury. Unfortunately, those with progressive neurological diseases cannot participate. If eligible, participants can expect to undergo a standard surgical procedure where researchers will use the laser technique and take muscle biopsies. This study aims to improve understanding of muscle function in CP and help doctors make better decisions about treatments to improve movement and quality of life for patients.
