ClinConnect Summary

The PADaWL study is researching how diet affects weight loss and physical fitness in active duty women after giving birth. Pregnancy can lead to weight gain, and this study aims to help women lose that weight during the first year after having a baby, which is a critical time for weight loss. Women who participate will either get special support from a dietitian through virtual sessions or receive standard postpartum care. The study will monitor their diet, activity levels, and sleep patterns to see how these factors influence weight loss and overall fitness.

To be eligible for the study, participants must be active duty women from any military branch, be at least 18 years old, and have had a single baby between 36 and 41 weeks of pregnancy. They also need to have a healthy weight before pregnancy and plan to stay on active duty for at least 18 months after giving birth. Participants can expect to be involved for up to a year, with regular check-ins during the first 12 weeks and further evaluations at 6, 9, and 12 months postpartum. This research will help us understand how to better support new mothers in the military and may lead to improved guidelines for postpartum care.
