ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different storage conditions affect a specific protein called CD47 in platelet concentrates. Platelet concentrates are blood products that can be vital for patients who need transfusions, especially those with a condition called Platelet Storage Pool Deficiency, where the platelets don’t work as well as they should. The goal of the trial is to find out if changing how these platelets are stored can improve their effectiveness.
To participate in this trial, donors must meet certain safety guidelines set by the AABB, a professional organization that ensures quality in blood banking. The study is currently not recruiting participants, but once it begins, anyone aged between 65 and 74 years may be eligible, regardless of gender. Participants can expect to contribute to important research that may help improve platelet treatments in the future. It’s important to note that only those who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to take part in the trial.
