Malocclusion Gingivitis Dental Biofilm

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is investigating how orthodontic treatment, like braces, affects the balance of bacteria in the mouth, especially in people with gum issues like gingivitis. When braces are used, they can change the way bacteria grow in the mouth, which can lead to infections and make treatment harder. Researchers will look at how metals from dental appliances might influence these bacteria and how effective different cleaning methods are in treating gum problems. They will analyze the bacteria present in dental biofilm (a sticky film of bacteria on teeth) and how it responds to treatment over time.

To participate in this study, individuals between the ages of 47 and 74 who have a moderate to severe need for braces due to misaligned teeth (malocclusion) may be eligible. However, those with certain conditions, such as developmental disorders or specific dental abnormalities, will not be included. Participants can expect to undergo assessments of their gum health and bacteria levels, helping researchers understand the best ways to manage oral health during orthodontic treatment. This study is currently recruiting participants, and everyone is welcome to apply, regardless of gender.
