ClinConnect Summary
The Central Line Study is a clinical trial aimed at comparing two different methods for placing a central venous catheter, which is a special type of IV used to give medications or fluids directly into the bloodstream. This study is looking for adult patients aged 65 to 74 who are in the emergency department and need this procedure done with the help of ultrasound guidance. If you or a family member is being treated in the emergency department and meets these age criteria, the medical team will discuss the possibility of participating in the study.
Participants in this trial can expect to be randomly assigned to one of the two techniques for placing the catheter. The goal is to see which method is safer and more effective. It’s important to note that patients with certain medical conditions, such as bleeding disorders or previous central line placements in the same area, may not be eligible to join. The study is still actively recruiting participants, and those who are eligible will be asked to provide informed consent before taking part.
