ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at ways to help reduce anxiety in children and their parents before surgery. It focuses on two fun activities, called therapeutic play interventions, that aim to make the preoperative experience less stressful. The two types of play being compared are "bubble breathing play therapy," which uses bubbles to promote calmness, and "tell-show-do play therapy," where the healthcare team explains what will happen during surgery in a friendly way, and then demonstrates it using toys.
To participate in this study, children aged 5 to 12 who are scheduled for elective surgery and their parents are eligible, as long as they don’t have certain hearing, vision, or speech issues, and no diagnosed anxiety disorders. Participants will join activities designed to help them feel more relaxed before the surgery. The trial is currently recruiting, and everyone involved will contribute to understanding how these playful techniques can help ease anxiety for families during this important time.
