ClinConnect Summary
The ALLEGRO trial is studying how intravenous lidocaine, a medication commonly used as a local anesthetic, can help people recover faster after colorectal surgery. Researchers are looking at whether lidocaine can reduce common issues that many patients face after surgery, like nausea, vomiting, and delays in getting the digestive system back to normal. This trial is important because it aims to improve the overall recovery experience for patients undergoing intestinal surgery.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and scheduled for elective intestinal surgery. Both men and women can join, but there are a few important criteria: you should have a body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 30 and be in good overall health (classified as ASA I or II, which means no serious health issues). If you have had previous gastrointestinal surgery or have certain health conditions, you may not be eligible. Participants will receive either the lidocaine treatment or a placebo (a treatment with no active medication) during their surgery, and the trial aims to see how this affects their recovery process.
