ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the sounds made by the bowels of preterm babies who are less than 32 weeks old. Researchers want to find out if these bowel sounds can help predict a serious condition called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which affects the intestines of premature infants. They will record 30 seconds of bowel sounds from the babies every day, both before and after they start being fed. By analyzing these sounds, the team hopes to identify normal patterns and see how they change when there is a problem.
To be eligible for this study, babies must be preterm and less than 32 weeks old, while those older than 32 weeks or with certain digestive issues cannot participate. If your baby is eligible, you can expect daily recordings of their bowel sounds during their hospital stay. This research is important because understanding bowel sounds could help doctors identify which babies are at risk for NEC sooner, potentially leading to better care and outcomes.
