ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of aerobic exercise training on patients with Type III Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) who are able to walk and are receiving a treatment called Nusinersen. The goal is to see how exercise can improve their movement, breathing, fatigue levels, and overall quality of life. The study will involve 20 participants aged between 10 and 50 years old, all of whom have been confirmed to have SMA through genetic testing and can walk at least 25 meters without help.
Participants will be divided into two groups: one will follow a regular physiotherapy program along with a medium-intensity aerobic exercise training for 12 weeks, while the other group will not receive this additional exercise training. Before starting and after completing the training, their walking ability, exercise capacity, muscle strength, and feelings of fatigue will be assessed. This study is important because it aims to explore how safe and beneficial aerobic exercise can be for SMA patients, and the findings could help improve care strategies for individuals living with this condition.
