ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new device called FlowSense, which is designed to help monitor a condition known as hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus occurs when too much cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain, and while the standard treatment is an implantable shunt, these can sometimes fail, leading to repeated hospital visits and surgeries. FlowSense is a small, wireless sensor that can be placed on the skin over the shunt. It helps doctors check how well the shunt is working without needing any extra equipment. The data collected by FlowSense is sent to a special mobile app, making it easier for healthcare providers to monitor patients in various settings, like clinics or emergency rooms.
To participate in this trial, you need to be between 1 and 21 years old and have one or more external ventricular drains (EVDs) in place, which are tubes used to help drain excess fluid. Unfortunately, if you don't have an EVD, you won't be eligible for this study. If you join the trial, you can expect to have the FlowSense device placed on your neck and have your shunt function monitored in a way that's easy and comfortable. This innovative approach aims to reduce unnecessary hospital visits and improve the care of patients with hydrocephalus.
