ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "Home BP Monitoring," is studying a new way to check for high blood pressure in teenagers, especially those who are African American, as they have a higher risk. Instead of the usual method of measuring blood pressure in a doctor's office (which can sometimes give inaccurate results), this study will look at blood pressure readings taken at home. The goal is to see how these home measurements compare to a more reliable test called 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), which is currently the best way to diagnose high blood pressure.
To participate, teens aged 14 to 19 who identify as African American or have some African American ancestry can join, as long as they have not been diagnosed with high blood pressure or are taking medication for it. Participants will have the chance to use home blood pressure machines and share their experiences through short phone interviews. The study aims to recruit 750 teens, and it will take place only at the University Hospitals, making it a unique opportunity to help improve high blood pressure screening for young people.
