ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to program cochlear implants, which are devices that help people with hearing loss. Currently, cochlear implants use a one-size-fits-all approach, which may not work well for everyone because each person's inner ear is unique. The researchers have developed a special tool that creates customized pitch-maps based on individual anatomy to improve how well patients can hear different sounds. In the study, participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard pitch-map or the new personalized one, and their hearing abilities will be tested over time to see which method works better.
To join the study, participants must be at least 18 years old and have moderate to profound hearing loss or single-sided deafness. They should be approved for a cochlear implant and be able to understand English. Participants will undergo various hearing tests and will need to return for follow-up appointments, just like they would for regular care. This trial aims to find out if the personalized pitch-maps can help cochlear implant users hear more clearly and understand speech better.
