ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of a medication called dexamethasone to improve recovery for teenagers with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) who are undergoing a specific type of surgery called posterior spinal fusion. The researchers want to see if giving dexamethasone before and after the surgery can help reduce the need for pain medications, decrease nausea, and help patients recover faster. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the dexamethasone in a specific schedule or a standard dose as part of routine care.
To be eligible for the study, patients must be between the ages of 10 and 18 and diagnosed with AIS, and they must be having surgery performed by Dr. Nicholas Fletcher at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston. Those who are pregnant, over 18 years old, or have certain other conditions will not be able to participate. If enrolled, participants can expect to stay in the hospital for their surgery and receive either the full dexamethasone treatment or the standard care, helping researchers learn more about the best ways to support recovery after surgery.
