ClinConnect Summary
The FUEL trial is a research study aimed at understanding dietary lapses, which are times when people struggle to stick to their eating goals while trying to lose weight. Researchers want to learn about the different reasons why these lapses happen, such as overeating or eating foods that weren’t part of the plan. By using wearable devices and a smartphone app, participants will help researchers gather information about their eating habits, physical activity, and daily experiences over 18 months. This study hopes to uncover patterns in these lapses to better tailor future weight loss programs to help people succeed.
To be eligible for the trial, participants should be between 18 and 70 years old and have a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 50, which typically indicates being overweight or obese. Participants will receive an established online weight loss program for 12 months, followed by a 6-month maintenance period. Throughout the study, they will complete surveys on their eating habits, wear devices to track their activity and sleep, and have their weight measured regularly. This research not only aims to help individuals but also to improve treatment strategies for everyone dealing with weight management.
