ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to better recognize and understand the pain experienced by premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Researchers are using advanced technology called machine learning to create a system that can identify different types of distress in these infants more accurately. This could help improve how healthcare providers care for and manage pain in vulnerable newborns.
The trial is looking for participants in two main groups. First, parents of infants currently in the NICU or healthcare professionals working there can take part in interviews to share their experiences. Second, they are seeking infants born between 28 to 32 weeks of gestation who are within six weeks of birth and need a routine heel prick for blood testing. However, infants with certain conditions, like congenital malformations or those receiving specific medications, are not eligible for this part of the study. Participants can expect to contribute to important research that may improve pain management practices for newborns in the future.
