ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the "Prospective, Longitudinal Study on Fitness Doping in Denmark," is looking into the health risks linked to the use of anabolic steroids, which are often misused by athletes and fitness enthusiasts. The study aims to understand long-term health issues that could arise from steroid use, such as heart disease, diabetes, infertility, and mental health problems. Researchers will collect information from 800 participants who have used these substances, as well as 100 control participants who have not. They will assess various health aspects through interviews, physical exams, questionnaires, and lab tests.
To participate, you need to be at least 18 years old and either a current or former user of anabolic steroids for at least four weeks, or a recreational athlete with no history of use. Participants will be followed for up to 15 years, with check-ins every three years to monitor their health. This study is important because it aims to identify the need for medical support for those affected by the consequences of steroid use and to improve understanding of the impact on both physical and mental health.
