ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the "repeated bout effect" (RBE) in individuals with neuromuscular diseases (NMDs), specifically looking at how their muscles respond to exercise. The RBE is a natural adaptation where one session of exercise helps protect muscles from damage during future workouts. While this effect has been observed in healthy individuals, it hasn't been explored in those with NMDs, who might experience different types of muscle damage. The researchers want to see if patients with NMDs can also benefit from the RBE when they perform concentric exercises (where muscles shorten as they contract).
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be over 18 years old and able to complete the exercise challenges safely. They should have a confirmed diagnosis of a specific neuromuscular condition or be healthy controls, and they must not have any active muscle injuries on the test day. Participants can expect to engage in exercise tests while researchers monitor their muscle response and overall health. This study is currently recruiting participants and aims to better understand how exercise might help protect muscles in people with NMDs.

Eligibility criteria
- Inclusion Criteria:
- • Age \> 18 years
- • The ability to complete the exercise challenge
- • No concurrent medical condition that could interfere with interpretation of the results
- • Molecular diagnosis of the specific condition in specified patient groups or healthy control
- • No active muscle injury on the test day (caused by recent exercise, seizures, trauma, etc.)
- Exclusion Criteria:
- • Cardiac or pulmonary disease contraindicating peak exercise testing or strenuous exercise defined as NYHA-class III-IV
- • Veins that are too difficult to puncture for blood sampling, evaluated by the investigator
- • Severe muscle weakness, that prevents the subject completing the exercise test, evaluated by the investigator
