ClinConnect Summary
The Adaptive Physical Activity Study for Stroke is a clinical trial aimed at helping people who have had a stroke increase their physical activity, which is important for preventing further strokes. The researchers want to create a flexible exercise program that can be tailored to each individual's needs. They will use a special design called a SMART trial to figure out the best ways to combine different types of activities, such as structured exercise and everyday physical activity, to help participants become more active. A smartphone app will also be developed to make it easier for participants to follow the program.
To join this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and within the first six months after having a stroke. They should have a confirmed stroke diagnosis and be able to communicate their basic needs. Participants will need to live within 90 kilometers of the university running the study and have access to the technology required for the mobile health app. It's important that participants do not have serious heart conditions that would prevent them from safely engaging in physical activity. Those who join the study can expect support in increasing their activity levels, which may lead to better health outcomes after their stroke.
