ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is comparing two methods of managing pain after lower limb amputation: a continuous sciatic nerve block and epidural analgesia. Both methods aim to help patients manage pain effectively and reduce the chances of developing phantom limb pain, which is a common issue after amputation. The study will include 112 participants, and everyone will be assigned randomly to one of the two groups. The trial is designed to be fair, with neither the patients nor the healthcare providers knowing which method each participant is receiving.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and scheduled for an above or below knee amputation, or for surgery to reshape a lower limb that has already been amputated. They should also be open to using a continuous pain relief method as part of their recovery. However, those with certain conditions, such as a history of traumatic amputation, allergies to local anesthetics, or severe kidney disease, may not qualify. Participants can expect to receive either treatment method and will be monitored for their pain levels and overall recovery. This trial is currently not recruiting participants but will provide valuable insights into the best ways to manage postoperative pain.
