ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at the use of red blood cells from umbilical cord blood to help treat extremely premature infants who need blood transfusions due to a condition called anemia of prematurity. The researchers want to find out if these cord blood red cells are safe and as effective as red blood cells from adult donors. The study is currently recruiting participants, specifically preterm infants born before 28 weeks of pregnancy who are being treated in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona.
To participate in this trial, parents or legal guardians need to provide consent for their child, and infants must not have had any prior blood transfusions or certain medical conditions that could complicate the study. If eligible, families can expect their infants to receive either cord blood red cells or standard blood products as part of the treatment. This research aims to find new options for supporting the health of extremely premature babies, potentially improving their care.
