ClinConnect Summary
The UNC Pleural Fluid Registry is a research study designed to collect samples from patients who have lung cancer or related conditions, like lung infections or breast cancer. The goal is to gather information that can help scientists learn more about these diseases and develop better tests and treatments in the future. This study is actively recruiting participants who are 18 years or older and have been diagnosed with pleural fluid, which is fluid that builds up around the lungs and may need to be drained. Eligible patients include those who are in the hospital or visiting as outpatients and show signs of a lung infection or have a known cancer diagnosis.
If you decide to participate, you will provide samples of your blood, tissue, or other body fluids, which will be used for research purposes. Before joining, your doctor will check to make sure you can safely undergo the procedure for draining the fluid. It’s important to note that patients who are in prison or have certain medical conditions that may prevent safe drainage are not eligible for this study. Your involvement could contribute to important discoveries that help improve the care and treatment of patients with similar conditions in the future.
