ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to treat air leaks that can happen after lung surgery, specifically after a procedure called VATS lobectomy. An air leak can occur when air escapes from the lung into the chest cavity, and this trial aims to see if using a patient’s own blood to help seal the leak is more effective than the usual treatment of simply draining the air with a chest tube. In this study, eligible patients who are over 18 years old and have a significant air leak after surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the blood treatment or the standard drainage treatment.
Participants in this trial can expect to be closely monitored after their surgery to see how well each treatment works in helping their air leak heal. It’s important to note that this study is currently recruiting, so interested patients should consider their eligibility. Those who are unable to give consent, are under 18, have had trauma, or have certain health issues like low blood pressure or low blood cell counts will not be included in the trial. Overall, this research could lead to improved care for patients experiencing air leaks after lung surgery.
