ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how effective two medications, pregabalin and dexmedetomidine, are in preventing delirium, which is a sudden change in mental status, in elderly patients after they have heart surgery. Delirium can cause confusion and is more common in older adults following surgery. The goal is to see which medication works better at reducing the chances of developing delirium and how long it lasts if it does occur.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be at least 65 years old and scheduled for heart surgery. However, those with certain conditions, like a history of severe heart problems, psychiatric issues, or those unable to communicate, cannot take part. If someone joins the trial, they will receive either pregabalin or dexmedetomidine before and after their surgery. This research is important because it could help improve care for older patients undergoing heart surgery by finding better ways to prevent delirium.
