ClinConnect Summary
This Mayo Clinic study in Phoenix is checking whether immersive soundscapes—relaxing music and sounds played in the procedure room—can improve how patients feel during outpatient vascular procedures for varicose veins (such as venous ablation or port removal). People are randomly assigned to either the immersive soundscape group or a no-music control group. About 100 adults may enroll.
During the procedure, researchers will compare changes in pain, anxiety, and stress, as well as heart rate and blood pressure, from before the procedure to about an hour after it ends. Pain and anxiety are measured on simple 0 to 100 scales. Eligible participants are adults aged 18 to 100 who speak English and can give informed consent; non–English speakers and those who cannot consent are excluded, and healthy volunteers are not eligible. The study started in 2023 and is currently enrolling by invitation; results are not yet available, with primary completion expected around June 2025.
