Wheelchair Seating Discomfort

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how the way patients are positioned in their wheelchairs can affect their comfort and safety. Researchers want to understand if standardized positioning can help reduce discomfort, prevent sliding, and lower the risk of bedsores for patients with neurological diseases, such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease. The study will also look at how these positioning techniques affect caregivers and their experiences with the patient's daily activities, like eating and transferring in and out of the chair.

To participate, patients need to be between 18 and 80 years old, have been hospitalized for at least 9 days, and spend at least one hour in a wheelchair. Participants will need to provide consent and complete some questionnaires about their comfort. They should be aware that involvement in the study means additional transfers for positioning purposes and some extra measurements related to their sitting comfort. It's important to note that patients with severe cognitive issues, pressure sores, or those who are pregnant will not be eligible to join the trial.
