ClinConnect Summary
The Nutritious Eating With Soul study is a research project looking to improve healthy eating habits within the African American community. The trial will involve 228 participants who are interested in learning about nutrition through a special program called the NEW Soul program. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will attend live weekly classes at vegan soul food restaurants and receive vouchers for meals, while the other group will only receive meal vouchers without attending the classes. The study aims to see which approach is more effective in helping people eat healthier and lose weight.
To be eligible for the study, participants must identify as African American, be between 18 and 65 years old, and have a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 49.9, which indicates they are overweight. They should also be able to travel to the restaurants for classes and commit to attending all sessions. Participants who are pregnant, currently on a strict plant-based diet, or involved in other weight loss programs will not be able to join. Throughout the study, participants can expect to learn about nutritious eating while also enjoying delicious plant-based meals. This trial is not only about improving health but also about understanding how well this program works in the community.
