ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a method called transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the auricular vagus nerve (TENS), which aims to help regulate the autonomic nervous system. Researchers are particularly interested in understanding how this method affects heart rate variability (HRV), a measure that can indicate how well the autonomic nervous system is functioning. Some earlier studies have shown mixed results, with some suggesting that TENS can improve HRV, while others did not see any changes.
If you’re between the ages of 65 and 93 and have a normal heart rhythm, you might be eligible to participate in this study. However, if you have certain heart conditions, are taking specific medications like glucocorticosteroids or antiarrhythmics (except beta blockers), or have severe kidney or liver problems, you wouldn’t be able to join. Participants in the trial will receive TENS treatment and will be monitored to see how it affects their heart rate and overall health. This study is currently recruiting, and your involvement could help advance understanding in this area.
