ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how shared decision-making (SDM) can help families of children newly diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The goal is to see if working closely with a decision coach can make it easier for patients and their families to choose the best treatment options, especially for new biologic therapies. Families will receive support and educational materials tailored to help them understand their treatment choices better. Researchers will measure how confident families feel about their decisions and how satisfied they are with the choices made.
To participate, adolescents aged 13 to 17 years who are English-speaking and either just recommended a new biologic treatment or have started one within the last year can join. Participants will work with a decision coach until they reach a final treatment decision, and their experiences will be evaluated through surveys before and after the intervention. This study aims to improve decision-making for families facing complex treatment options for IBD.
