ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at two different surgical methods to treat ankle instability caused by chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) in people who are hypermobile. The study compares a technique called BPR (Broström Procedure with suture tape) to an anatomic reconstruction method. Researchers want to find out which method provides better strength and stability for the ankle after surgery. They also want to see if there are any issues, like rejection of the suture tape or more damage to the ankle from the reconstruction.
To participate in this study, you need to be between 18 and 60 years old and have been diagnosed with ankle pain and instability, with a specific measure of hypermobility. However, if you have recently injured your ankle, have certain ligament injuries, or have significant arthritis, you won't be eligible. If you join the study, you will help researchers learn more about the best ways to treat this common ankle problem and may receive one of the two surgical treatments being studied.
