ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating the use of a special heart ultrasound called point-of-care echocardiography (POC-Echo) to better understand heart function in patients with cirrhosis who have persistent fluid buildup in their abdomen, known as refractory ascites. The study aims to measure how well the heart pumps blood and how it responds to changes in volume, while also looking at certain urine tests that can indicate kidney health. By gathering this information, researchers hope to find better ways to manage the health of patients with cirrhosis and related complications.
To participate in the study, individuals should be aged 65 or older and have cirrhosis with refractory ascites. However, some patients will not be eligible, including those with active liver cancer, severe bleeding, certain heart conditions, or those on specific treatments for kidney disease. Participants can expect to undergo heart and kidney assessments through non-invasive tests. This trial is currently recruiting, and your involvement could contribute to important findings that may improve care for others in similar situations.
