ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new tool called the Opioid Risk Reduction Clinical Decision Support (ORRCDS) that aims to help pharmacists assess the risk of opioid abuse when they dispense prescription pain medications. The goal is to see if using this tool can help lower the risk of opioid misuse among patients compared to the usual way pharmacies currently operate. In this study, some pharmacies will use the ORRCDS tool while others will continue with their standard practices, and researchers will compare the results.
If you live in the Cincinnati or Columbus, Ohio area and visit a large chain retail pharmacy, you could be part of this study. It’s important to know that the trial is focused on the pharmacies themselves, not individual patients, so you won’t need to take any special actions. The researchers believe that patients at pharmacies using the ORRCDS tool will have a better chance of reducing their risk for opioid abuse. This study is currently looking for participating pharmacies and does not have any specific exclusions for patients.
