ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effectiveness of an oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAI) compared to acetaminophen (a common pain reliever) or a placebo (a treatment that has no active ingredients) for patients who have been treated for renal colic, which is severe pain caused by kidney stones. The goal is to see if taking an NSAI after leaving the emergency department helps reduce pain, lowers the chances of needing to return for more treatment, and decreases the number of hospital admissions.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be over 18 years old, have been treated in the emergency department for renal colic, and be able to consent to join the study. They should not have any conditions that would prevent them from safely taking NSAI or acetaminophen. If someone joins the study, they will receive either the NSAI, acetaminophen, or a placebo and will be followed up to see how well they manage their pain after treatment. This trial is important because there hasn’t been enough research on using NSAI for renal colic, and it may help improve pain management options for patients in the future.
