ClinConnect Summary
The TIME trial is studying two different home-based exercise programs designed to help older adults improve their walking and mobility. The first program, called FAST, is a short strength training routine that encourages participants to set personal goals for their performance. The second program, BAND TOGETHER, is similar to an online program offered by Silver Sneakers and includes exercises for strength, balance, and aerobic fitness. Researchers believe that the FAST program will be more effective in helping older adults improve their leg function because it encourages them to be more consistent and motivated.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 65 years old and have some difficulty walking a quarter of a mile. You should also have access to the Internet and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. However, if you have chest pain, are involved in another related research project, are planning to move or have surgery in the next year, or have cognitive impairment, you won't be eligible to join. If you decide to take part, you can expect to follow one of these exercise programs from home and contribute to important research that could help improve mobility for older adults.
