ClinConnect Summary
This study is a long-term, real-world registry of adults who have had endoscopic bariatric/metabolic therapies (EMBTs) or bariatric surgery. Researchers will follow about up to 5,000 participants for up to 10 years to learn how these procedures affect weight and health, including changes in blood pressure, diabetes control, cholesterol, and any procedure-related safety issues. They will also look at costs and how often people need other medications or have complications after treatment.
Who can take part? Adults aged 18 to 80 who had an endoscopic obesity procedure, an endoscopic revision after bariatric surgery, or a bariatric surgical procedure, and who have medical records in the Mass General Brigham system. Participation is by invitation and is observational, meaning the study does not assign treatments. Participants will have data collected from medical records and follow-up over time, including weight changes, blood pressure readings and medications, diabetes and cholesterol lab tests, and any adverse events. The study may also explore changes in gut hormones and overall costs between endoscopic and surgical approaches. Privacy is important, and de-identified data may be shared in the future, though current plans on data sharing are still being discussed.
