ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how wearing face masks affects breathing and walking for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Since people with COPD are more likely to get seriously ill from COVID-19, wearing masks is important for their safety. However, some patients may find that masks make it harder for them to breathe or walk comfortably. In this study, researchers will have COPD patients wear masks while they take a 6-Minute Walking Test to see how it impacts their ability to walk and breathe.
To participate in this study, you need to be diagnosed with COPD and have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Unfortunately, if you have heart problems, use long-term oxygen therapy, are unable to move around, have a body mass index (BMI) over 35, or are pregnant, you won’t be eligible. If you join the study, you can expect to perform some walking tests while wearing a mask, and your experience will help researchers understand the best ways to keep COPD patients safe during the pandemic.
