ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how obesity, diabetes, and weight-loss surgery (bariatric surgery) affect pregnancy outcomes for mothers and their babies. With many women of childbearing age being overweight or obese, especially in the UK, it's important to understand how these factors can complicate pregnancies. The study will compare pregnancies in women with obesity or diabetes to those with a normal weight and also look at pregnancies in women who have had bariatric surgery versus those who haven't, but were similar in weight before surgery and early in their pregnancy.
To participate in this study, women must be pregnant and fall into one of the following categories: have a normal body weight (BMI under 30), have obesity (BMI 30 or higher), have diabetes related to pregnancy, or have undergone bariatric surgery in the past. However, women under 18 years old or those expecting twins or triplets are not eligible. Participants can expect to undergo assessments related to their health and the health of their babies throughout the pregnancy. This trial aims to provide valuable insights that could help improve care for pregnant women facing obesity and diabetes.
