ClinConnect Summary
The clinical trial titled "SURGIcal COmplication and MIcrobiome ChangeS in Colorectal Surgery" is investigating how changes in the gut bacteria, known as the microbiome, can affect recovery after colorectal surgery. The microbiome is important for our health, helping with digestion and healing. This study is looking at patients who are scheduled for a specific type of surgery called a colo-colic anastomosis, where two parts of the colon are joined together. Researchers want to understand how the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut impacts the risk of complications, like infections or issues with the surgical stitches.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be between the ages of 65 and 74, have no bowel obstruction, and should not be allergic to antibiotics. They should also be able to prepare their bowels for surgery. Participants can expect to contribute to important research that could improve surgical outcomes for others in the future. It's also important to note that those who have been recently treated with antibiotics or have certain health conditions, like being pregnant or having a weakened immune system, may not qualify for this study.
