ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how well a combination of calcium and vitamin D, with or without daily servings of Jarlsberg cheese, can help improve bone health in older adults who have osteopenia, a condition where bones are weaker than normal but not yet classified as osteoporosis. The study will include men and women over 55 years of age who have a specific bone density measurement (known as T-score) indicating they are at risk for osteoporosis.
Participants will be randomly assigned to two groups: one group will take the calcium and vitamin D supplements along with Jarlsberg cheese, while the other group will only take the supplements for the first 16 weeks. After that, everyone will receive both the supplements and the cheese for another 16 weeks. Throughout the study, which lasts a total of 32 weeks for some and 48 weeks for others, participants will have their bone health monitored. To join the study, individuals must meet certain criteria, such as being over 55 and having osteopenia, and they should not have any serious health issues or allergies that would prevent them from participating.
