ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Sleep Architecture & Cognition in Focal Epilepsy," is exploring how sleep and brain activity relate to thinking abilities in people with focal epilepsy. Participants, including those with focal epilepsy and healthy individuals, will wear devices to monitor their sleep at home for a week and then undergo more detailed testing over two nights in a sleep clinic in Sacramento, CA. During these overnight stays, researchers will record brain activity and test thinking skills before sleep and in the morning. On one of the nights, they will also play sounds in the room that won’t disturb the participants while they sleep.
To join the study, participants must be between 18 and 40 years old, have a diagnosis of focal epilepsy, and be able to follow instructions. Those with other significant brain disorders or severe sleep apnea, as well as anyone currently taking medications that could affect thinking, are not eligible. This trial aims to better understand how sleep impacts cognitive function, which could lead to improved care for individuals with focal epilepsy.
