ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "MIStreatment Screening in Elders Before Discharge," aims to identify older adults who may be experiencing mistreatment, such as abuse or neglect, while they are hospitalized. The study will use a simple screening tool to ask patients a few questions about their experiences. By doing this, the researchers hope to connect those who may need help with the right medical team, ensuring they receive the care and support they need before leaving the hospital. This effort is designed to prevent further harm and improve the safety of older patients as they go home.
To be eligible for this study, participants must currently be admitted to the Memorial Herman Hospital Acute Care of Elders unit and be able to hear and respond to questions when they are read to them. If a patient agrees to take part, they can expect to have a brief conversation with the research team about their well-being. The study is open to older adults of all genders, and participation is entirely voluntary. If someone does not want to join the study, that’s perfectly fine. Overall, this trial is focused on making sure that no one misses the chance to get help for mistreatment during their hospital stay.
