ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the use of kidney ultrasounds (KUS) in young children who have their first urinary tract infection (UTI) with a fever. The goal is to find out if the presence of certain germs and the frequency of UTIs can help predict whether a KUS will show any problems. Typically, doctors recommend a KUS for all children after their first febrile UTI to check for any underlying kidney issues, but there's ongoing debate about whether this is necessary for everyone.
To be eligible for this study, children must be between 2 months and 3 years old and have had their first UTI. However, those with previous UTIs, those on preventive antibiotics, or those with known kidney problems are not included. Participants will undergo a KUS to see if any kidney problems can be identified based on their symptoms and the germs causing their infection. This research could help determine better ways to evaluate children with UTIs and potentially reduce unnecessary tests.
